Application
Thermon RSX self-regulating heating cables are designed for freeze protection or process temperature maintenance applications up to 65°C, where the watt density requirements preclude the use of the standard range of BSX cables. These characteristics make RSX extremely suitable for application in grease-line flow maintenance systems which maintain the pipe temperature at 40°C in order to prevent greasy waste water from clogging the pipework due to the grease mixure cooling down and solidifying.
The heat output of the RSX cables varies in response to the surrounding conditions along the entire length of a circuit. Whenever the heat loss of the insulated pipe, tank or equipment increases (as ambient temperature drops), the heat output of the cable increases. Conversely, when the heat loss decreases (as the ambient temperature rises or product flows), the cable reacts by reducing its heat output. RSX heat tracing cables are available with polyolefin (OJ) overjacket suitable for mild inorganic solutions and with a fluoropolymer (FOJ) overjacket for higher chemical resistance against aggressive organics and corrosives.
RSX 15 heat trace cables are approved for use in ordinary (nonclassified) areas, hazardous (classified) areas, and Zone 1 and 2 classified areas.
